Thanksgiving 2025

The hard rain here today had just stopped. I was sitting in my usual spot in our sunroom finishing my devotion on thankfulness when I looked up and saw a display of God’s beautiful symbol of His promise to never flood the entire world again.

The rainbow appeared only for a short time. Oh, how I wish the picture I had hurriedly taken captured its splendor! I felt like the rainbow’s placement in the sky - our front yard - was just for me! I was reflecting on how thankful I am to still be here after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in May and my subsequent treatment. Don’t laugh about my personal rainbow comment! God gets personal with His children!

Just how personal can the God of the universe be? Let tell you. Through my difficult, scary journey, He saw me. He heard me. He walked every step with me - even carried me at times - as I consistently learned and leaned on His incredible promises. I believe in and serve a living God who keeps His promises! When I dug into the powerful, transforming promises in God’s Word, they came alive to me in real time, each time! I held tightly onto them. They proved to be true. When I was distressed and could not pray my own words and prayed aloud His words back to Him, (especially the Psalms) I always felt His comforting, holy presence. I pictured Him sitting in a specific chair in the room with me. I cried and talked to Him for many hours - at all hours- and He met with me every time! In my stillness, waiting to hear from God, He answered me in ways I could never imagine. My experiences with Him changed me. His words were and still are personal to me. I treasure them. I treasure Him! I never dreamed that with my cancer would come gifts so specific to my needs. I could not deny they were straight from my heavenly Father! No, I wouldn’t trade my journey this year for anything!

God is not far from us in times of trouble. He is near to the broken-hearted, when you’re struggling to be thankful. The bible says when you seek Him with all of your heart you WILL find Him. Look for him in your storm. He will show up. I am a witness!!

You know I’m not good in the kitchen, so you know I have no idea what temperature you set the oven when cooking a turkey! But I am absolutely sure that I’m turning up to high the temperature of my thankfulness to God - this Thanksgiving, and forevermore!
