Mom, Never Underestimate Your Encouraging Words

My heart is lighter today, but I'll admit, I've been in a place that I don't like to be... a bit lost and in need of encouragement.
The reasons are probably no more than many of you are facing, but here's the thing. Usually, I am the encourager. Encouragement/Exhortation is one of my spiritual gifts. I love encouraging others. I am encouraged when I encourage others.
But lately I have been weary and, in my weakness, I've been discouraged, even questioning my own worth.
My mother's card came in the mail at just the right time - in God's timing. The card and its words were beautiful. It even had a bird on it! Mom and I share a love for birds! But it was what mom wrote in her own handwriting that touched my heart to the core.
As I soaked up her affirming words, some of them underlined for emphasis, tears fell from my eyes. They were a comfort to my soul. My questions about myself began to fall away. I held her card close to my chest for a moment, imagining it was her. Later, I tucked it in my bible for safe keeping.
No matter our age, a mom's words of affirmation to her daughter are like no other, aren't they? Like my mom, her card and the uplifting words she wrote to me are a treasure. I know I will read them many times over.
God, thank you for my mom and her encouraging words. I'm so thankful that she loves you! She is precious to me! Thank you for your perfect timing and for working through my mom to encourage me. You are a good, good Father!
XOXO
