Look at the Birds, Consider the Lilies

I was sitting in my sunroom sanctuary and noticed a sparrow eating seeds from our bird feeder. Upon reflection, I realized that just a few feet from our bird feeder is where our lilies bloom each spring. In the same view were two of Jesus’ most beautiful illustrations - lasting reminders of The Father’s care and faithful provision for us.
It occurred to me that if I hadn’t filled the feeder, God still would have cared for that tiny sparrow. Our bird feeder was one of the ways The Creator chose to provide for the songbird that day.
“Jesus said, ‘Not one of them is forgotten by God.’ ~ Luke 12:6 Then He tells us, ‘Look at the birds… your Heavenly Father feeds them.’ He even invites us to ‘Consider the lilies….’ or as Matthew writes, “consider how the wildflowers grow.’” Jesus asks, “Are you not much more valuable then they?” ~ Matthew 6:26
Today, be a noticer. Look at the birds. Consider the lilies. They’re still preaching the same sermon Jesus preached all those years ago.
As if the sparrow and lilies weren’t enough, a graceful great egret and a majestic great blue heron stopped by for a visit, too. Yes, Jesus’ message was true then, and it’s true now. Our Father cares deeply for you.
